Meet Our Massage Therapist, Carol Wilson

Title and Responsibilities at Von Anthony Salon?
My title is Massage Therapist and I'm responsible for providing various massage services to Von Anthony clients.

Why did you attend massage therapy school?

I decided to go to Massage Therapy school 14 years ago so I could help people feel better and understand how their bodies work. It was  also important to have the flexibility to be home with my kids after school and to be involved in their after school activities.

What style of massage do you like to do?
I like to do the type of massage that helps my client feel better. I like to help educate people about how their bodies work and to show them that there are many muscles involved in the cause of the pain or problem. There is no quick fix to helping muscles return to their relaxed state, therefore many modalities are usually required to help this process.

Are you trained in any other specific massage modalities?
I am trained in many massage modalities including Swedish, therapeutic, deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial, hot stone, reflexology, prenatal, and sports massage. I also have other certifications in upper extremities, lower extremities, cranial, plantar fascitis  and nutrition, to name a few.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to spend time with my family. I work out 5 days a week. I like reading, traveling, kayaking, camping and spending time outdoors.

Best advice ever received?
The best advice I have received was from my father before he passed away. "only you can truly make you happy."

Where did you grow up?
I was born in Mississippi, lived in Georgia and have spent most of my life in Texas. I am a true "southern girl".

What book is currently on your nightstand?
I read a lot... from suspense thrillers to romance novels. I like anything that grabs and holds my attention. I like to exchange book ideas.

Vegetables you won't touch.
None, I love all vegetables, so this is hard. I guess beets are my least favorite.

Favorite home cooked meal.
My favorite meal is "southern". I grew up on southern food. I love fried catfish, turnip greens, sweet cornbread and homemade warm banana pudding but I don't eat this way very often. Its a rare treat to have.

What is playing on your iPod right now?
I like to listen to old rock music. Nothing specific, I like it all. (Rush, Styx, Boston, Journey, Def Leppard)

What is your favorite vacation spot?
I love to travel, but I guess the beach is my favorite place to go. I enjoy experiencing different cultures, their food and their way of life. Off the beaten path is my favorite way to travel. I have been to Mexico, S.America, France, Italy, Belgium, Bahamas plus many places in the U.S..

Favorite Starbucks drink?
I enjoy from time to time a skinny vanilla late.

What do you want to say to your future clients?
I enjoy helping people feel better and educating them to understand the benefits of massage therapy and how massage can help improve their quality of life. I feel that helping someone have more good days than bad is important. We are living, human beings and there is always going to be issues..Keeping those issues under control and to keep them pain free is important. I want to help clients learn to listen to their bodies and to know when something isn't going away over night... to seek massage help. I am confident in my abilities to help them achieve their goals.
